If your business's premises is currently lacking in storage space, you'll need to look elsewhere. Business storage services give you the chance to hold a lot of stock, even when the building you operate out of cannot accommodate it. If you're going to use such services, you need to make sure you do so in an organised manner that benefits your venture.

Tighten Up Security

Make sure the storage unit you use has tight security measures. Ask questions about who has access and what they need to do to get into the area. You should also look at whether they have CCTV and whether they'll have an onsite security officer. Ticking as many security boxes as possible isn't just about keeping your items safe in the short term. If there is a problem with your business storage later, being able to demonstrate that you took every step to keep your items secure makes it easier to get an insurance payout.

Pack Items Sensibly

While it's sometimes tempting to save on costs by not renting a unit that's too large, this may not always end well. If you're overpacking your unit, there's a chance you might damage some items. Additionally, it makes your stock harder to access, which can become time-consuming when you're in a hurry. Make sure you pack everything sensibly and consider clearly labelling each area of your stock room so you don't have to spend too long searching when you go in there.

Create an Inventory List

In the interest of staying organised, it helps to know which items are at your unit and which are at your usual premises. Create a clear inventory list that you can easily search to find items. You may also want to set up alerts for when you're running low on certain pieces. That way, you'll know when to visit your storage unit so you can replenish your stocks.

Declutter Periodically

Depending on the type of business you're in, the nature of what you may need to store could change. As such, it's wise to visit your storage unit periodically to declutter. Set a day aside once each quarter to visit your unit to see if you need everything that's in there. If you don't, you can free up space and make way for new items. Being able to free up space means you're less likely to spend money on excess storage facilities in the future.
